Unsure of what a powerflush is and how it can benefit you and your home? Hopefully we can help answer some common questions...
What is a powerflush?
A powerflush removes any stubborn build up in your central heating by flushing out the system with fast travelling water and additional powerful cleansing and immobilising agents. Once completed, all components and pipes should be free of all blockages.
When should I get a powerflush?
There are a few signs to look for that indicate it's time for a powerflush…
- If your radiators take a while to kick in or do not heat up at all. (indication that the pipes may be blocked with nasty build-up).
- If you can stick a magnet to the copper pipe work (indication there is iron sludge inside, built up from old dirty water).
- If your boiler is making loud, strange noises.
After a powerflush, your central heating system should run smoothly for the next few years minimum. When combined with regular servicing, your home could last a decade with lower heating bills, higher efficiency and reliable radiators.
Benefits of powerflushing
Powerflush = Warm radiators
Perhaps the most noticeable benefit; you needn't wait as long for your radiators to heat up as powerflushing the system will help remove the sludge blocking the pipes. Your radiators may also feel slightly warmer as the water will finally be able to circulate into any dodgy cold spots previously felt in your central heating system.
Powerflush = Longer central heating lifespan
Powerflushing your central heating system cleans out any build up created over the years, almost making it brand new again. This reduces the risk of any expensive breakdowns or replacements over the years; think of how much money you will save by getting your home powerflushed, instead of waiting for a pricey repair bill when things do go wrong!
Powerflush = Improved efficiency
After a powerflush, your central heating system will nice and clean inside again, meaning it needn't work as hard to heat your home and bring it up to a comfortable temperature. As any cold spots have been eliminated, you may be able to turn your thermostat down a few degrees, saving you a few extra pounds during the winter months.
Powerflush = Cheaper energy bills
Linking to greater efficiency, you will also
save money on your home energy bills. If your central heating system is more
efficient, it will not have to work as hard, wasting less energy and saving you
This will be especially noticeable if you have been able to turn your thermostat down slightly, as turning it down by just one degree can save you up to 10% on your heating bill (roughly £85 a year).
